In a sign of the times, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda gave an official New Year's greeting online via popular video-sharing website YouTube. His ruling party, the LDP became the first political party in Japan to launch a channel on YouTube in December. The channel features about two dozen party video clips targeted at a younger, broader audience. In a bid to raise his profile both in Japan and around the world, Fukuda greeted YouTube users in both Japanese and English in videos uploaded on New Year's Day. In his message he spoke of the challenges facing the world in the coming year and Japan's aim to play a leading role in finding solutions.
