Japan's new ambassador to Australia is a veteran diplomat with a wealth of experience from around the world. Before taking up his latest post in September, Takaaki Kojima has been a counsellor and ambassador to the UK, US, China, Brazil and Singapore along with having held senior positions in Japanese departments of trade, intelligence and international affairs. A Tokyo native, Kojima graduated from legal and political studies at Tokyo and Cambridge universities before entering the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1971. While in Australia, he hopes to expand and develop ties between the two nations.
