Japanese touch for Sculpture by the Sea

Last year's work by Yoshio Nitta

Australia's largest outdoor exhibition of sculpture is set to begin in Sydney on November 1. This year, the works of 106 artists from 18 countries including eight from Japan will feature at Bondi Pavilion Gallery, Tamarama Surf Club and along the 2km Bondi Beach to Tamarama coastal walk. Sculpted works by Japanese university lecturer Yoshio Nitta and Sydney resident Akira Kamada will be among those on show during the three weeks of the free exhibition. While sculptures can be made from virtually any material and express anything the artist chooses, many are sympathetic to the Sydney summer climate, the natural surroundings and the movement of the sun and shadows. Last year, more than 400,000 people visited the exhibition.
