Australian skiers targeted for Japanese winter resorts

Placing western-style beds in otherwise authentic Japanese hotel rooms might seem to have little to do with skiing and snowboarding. However this was one of the innovative ideas showcased at the Japan National Tourist Organisation's "Snow and Ski Japan Seminar". Held in Sydney on May 28, the sole purpose of the JNTO seminar was to attract more Australian tourists to popular Japanese winter holiday destinations like Hakuba in Nagano, Niseko in Hokkaido as well as Kyoto.
Presentations focused on promoting facilities that appeal to Australians and other overseas tourists, building on international acclaim for Japan's world-class powder snow and unique attractions. Recent depreciation of the Japanese yen against the Australian dollar has added to the attraction of Japan as a winter holiday destination.
