Kidzania theme park's popularity sours
In October 2006, the Japanese site of the children's theme park Kidzania opened in Toyosu in Tokyo. Kidzania is an activity-based theme park which allows children to role-play a number of adult occupations, learn the importance of earning and the value of community contribution, all under the supervision of professional staff.
The theme park is a scaled-down replica town with shops, pedestrians and traffic. It is aimed at children aged 2 to 15 and lets them try their hand at being a police officer, pizza chef, bank teller, radio DJ, firefighter and a doctor, among other professions. Originally a Mexican enterprise, the Tokyo Kidzania is based in the Lalaport shopping complex and has become a popular weekend destination for families from across Japan.
