Cooling and calm, Japanese style

In these times of bustle, pressure and stress, our home should be a haven of tranquillity, a place of peace and calm.

For centuries, the Japanese have enjoyed this wonderfully relaxing atmosphere in their own homes. It's called rakusan rakusui - a new dialogue with nature and the meaning of living.

One such example is the waterfall garden and pond, which can transform a conventional backyard into an oasis of natural serenity.

It becomes a permanent feature and extension of the home, connecting the harmony and attractiveness of a time-honoured Japanese garden with contemporary Australian living.

New Superbike has Yamaha riding high
Yamaha Motor Australia

In 2006 motorcycling enthusiasts have seen Yamaha dominate Australian racetracks. On the back of its high-tech 2006 YZF-R1 supersport bike, Yamaha Race Team pilot Jamie Stauffer is currently leading the national road race series and took line honours at all six Phillip Island races.

Looking to stay ahead of the pack in 2007, Yamaha Motor Australia has unveiled its new 1000cc four-cylinder YZF-R1. A bike available in three slick colours, and showing off futuristic styling, the new R1 suits both competition and street riding, and is set to hit Yamaha stores early next year.

Taking its cue from Valentino Rossi's world championship winning YZR-M1 race bike, the 2007 R1 sports a strapping four-valve engine, a fifth generation 'controlled flex' aluminium chassis and swingarm, and 'fly-by-wire' throttle - the YCC-T system providing instant response and smooth performance.

The new R1 has radially mounted front brake calipers ensuring rider control. It also features the world's first variable air funnel intake on a motorcycle, electronically maximizing combustion efficiency for a more linear power curve.
